Neck rejuvenation refers to a variety of different procedures aimed at removing loose skin and extra fat from beneath the chin, and tightening the loose platysma muscles that cause neck “banding”. If you are considering neck rejuvenation, during a private consultation, Dr. Liotta will be able to review the options with you, and help you select the perfect procedure to give you the results you are looking for.

How is Submental Liposuction Performed?

Dr. Liotta performs submental liposuction through three small “micro” incisions- one beneath the chin, and one on either side of the face, just behind the attachment of the earlobe. The procedure is performed under sedation if it is the only procedure to be performed. If submental liposuction is combined with other procedures, it may be performed under general anesthesia. Submental or neck liposuction is often performed with chin augmentation surgery. After surgery, you should expect to wear a compressive neck dressing for one week.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY?

Generally speaking, the downtime associated with submental liposuction is approximately one week. During that time, you will feel some tightness and your activities will be restricted. Bruising and swelling will be greatest in the first couple of days after the procedure, but should subside in about a week to 10 days. In general, submental liposuction is not a very painful operation. The final results of submental and neck liposuction with be seen around 3 months following the procedure.
